Life’s Playlist…..Candle in the Wind by Elton John

Twenty years ago today, the world was rocked by the death of Princess Diana.

She burst on the scene as a nineteen year old kindergarten teacher when she was engaged to England’s Prince Charles.

The wedding of the century captured our attention as millions and millions watched her slowly process the aisle in her billowing gown with insanely long train.

As princess she brought a humanity to the English monarchy that today is one of her greatest legacies, second only to her sons.

In her early 20’s she secured the monarch’s line with the births of William and then Harry.

After her marriage fell apart and divorce, she became the “people’s princess” and forged a new identity through charity work and tabloid fodder.

When Diana died in a Paris tunnel, the world was stunned, she would live forever as a young viable woman in the hearts of those who followed her life.

I was in West Palm Beach recovering from foot surgery and spent days on my sofa watching the world mourn their princess and was heartbroken to watch her sons march the funeral procession behind her casket.

Today, I imagine Diana would be a doting grandmother, probably remarried, upstaging Camilla (Prince Charles second wife) at every chance she got.

During her funeral service Elton John performed “Candle in the Wind” with new lyrics specific to the day.
