I serve on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity, Rabun County.
Habitat is an awesome organization the builds homes with extremely low interest mortgage rates for families in need.
The houses are not given to the owners, they pay a mortgage and are required to volunteer a number of hours of sweat equity when their home is being built. The organization epitomizes a hand up, not a hand out.
This year, we are building two homes for families that deserve a hand up.
Tonight, we host our largest fundraiser of the year, the Habitat Hoedown, a fun evening of great food, silent and live auction and recognition of those who help build our homes and volunteer for the organization.
It should be a good night, but I am reminded, a house is not a home, it takes love.
