Tuesday 10

Words to Live By…..

Four things let us ever keep in mind: God hears prayer, God heeds prayer, God answers prayer, and God delivers by prayer.

Tuesday 10 – Gary Lum “Yummy Lummy”

TuesdayI make no secret that this is one of my favorite bloggers, for a number of reasons.

He is a foodie…. I want to be a foodie.

He is from Australia…. oh how I want to visit Australia.

He is a reformed fattie….. oh how I want to be a former fattie and respect his determination and diligence.

It doesn’t hurt that he is a fellow baldie too!

Plus he is a nice guy and great writer…. so many reasons to love

Thanks Gary for your inspiration, the amazing photos, awesome writing and participation in the Tuesday 10, keep up the good work!

1)Excluding family members, who inspires you?

Dr Len Notaras, Executive Director National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre. He is a former boss, a colleague and friend. He inspired me to explore myself professionally beyond my training.

2)What is your guilty pleasure?  20130909GaryLumSuit_2

White coffee made with condensed milk. I drank this when I was morbidly obese. Now that I’m a healthier size I just think about it.

3)If you were to write a book, who is one person you would want to list in the acknowledgements and what would you say?

My mother. She encouraged me to read her text books as a domestic science teacher. In her day she had to teach physiology and zoölogy. Along with my father’s instruments (he was a medical practitioner) I was able to learn anatomy and dissection skills as a child. Mum inspired me to work hard, to learn and to never be satisfied with second best.

4)What is your favorite sandwich?

Before my recent trip to Vietnam, it was a Reuben I had in Atlanta Georgia. Now that I’ve been to Vietnam it has to be Bánh Mì.

5)What is the best professional advice you ever received?

Don’t stay in a job longer than ten years

6)As a child, what was your favorite bedtime story?

7)Who is the first Presidential candidate you ever voted for?

I turned 18 in 1983 and in Australia the next federal election was held in December 1984. Mr Robert ‘Bob’ Hawke won that election over Mr Andrew Peacock.

8)What is the one career achievement you are most proud of?

My role in the Australian response to the first Bali Bombings in 2002

9)If you could spend the day with any fictional character, who would you choose and why?

Captain Jonathan Archer the first Captain of the Starship Enterprise. I’m a Trekker. I loved the series Enterprise and I thought his character was fantastic because he really was the pioneer expeditionary explorer of outer space.

10)What is the best meal you ever ate?

My mother’s wonton soup that the family all pitched in and helped make from scratch.
Thanks again Gary!
