Tuesday 10 ~ Kevin Rolston

TuesdayKevin Rolston has been a radio mainstay in south Florida for years.  He is the ring-leader of one of the highest rated morning shows in the market on WILD 95.5FM.

As the reasoned member of the KVJ Show, Kevin makes daily attempts to carouse his partners Virginia and Jason, usually failing in the process.

Since making his entry into the south Florida market, Kevin has gone from twink single guy to muscle head husband and father of three.

Kevin’s talent has allowed him to make a smooth transition from party guy to dad, all the time leaving his audience laughing.

I appreciate Kevin taking the time to respond to the Tuesday 10 and hope you will enjoy his responses.

The KVJ Show may be found in syndication here  or listen on iHeartRadio here.

Kevin Rolston’s ~ Tuesday 10

1) Excluding family members, who inspires you?

The kids we encounter through our charity, Little Smiles, inspire me more than anyone I have ever met. Many of these kids are facing terminal illnesses, yet they have the courage to smile and even comfort the adults around them. Many of them are still accomplishing great things even during their illness. For instance, Talia is a 14-year-old girl who has been on the Ellen DeGeneres show countless times and has a YouTube channel with hundreds of thousands of followers. If she can accomplish all of that with cancer, what should I be able to do without it?
2) What is your guilty pleasure?
Right now, it is craft beer. My favorite beers, overall right now, are Magic Hat #9 and Sam Adams. I still love sampling and finding another great beer to add to the rotation, though. Plus, it gives me an ongoing excuse to have “just one more . . . for research.”
3)If you were to write a book, who is one person you would want to list in the acknowledgements and what would you say?
Is my wife gonna read this book? If so . . . for self-preservation, the answer is easy. Outside of my family, I would write an acknowledgment to Lynn Avery, my high school AP English teacher. She took me, a C student, into an AP english class, because, despite my grades, she believed in my creativity. At the time, no one believed in me, including myself. I was the class screw-off and destined for a life that is usually showcased on “Cops.” She showed me something about myself that I’m not sure I even acknowledged. Without her, I doubt that I would have ever pursued the life that I have today; a life I love. It taught me that we all just need someone to believe in us. I didn’t realize at the time how powerful that affirmation is. So, Mrs. Avery, thank you.

4)What is your favorite sandwich?
5) What is the best professional advice you ever received?
My Dad told me to find a job that you love to do. I am grateful that, for once, I listened.
6) As a child, what was your favorite bedtime story?
My mom used to tell me stories about her childhood growing up in Southern West Virginia. My favorite was a story about how she and her friends barely got through the old legendary tunnel that John Henry supposedly built before a train whooshed passed them. It taught me a lesson that I believe firmly in today – you will be more attached to a story if you know, or feel like you know, one of the people in the story. And never walk through long train tunnels.
7) Who is the first Presidential candidate you ever voted for?
Ross Perot. I think I made that mistake twice!
8) What is the one career achievement you are most proud of?
That I have had the privilege to be a positive part of people’s lives. Nothing satisfies me more than to hear a story from a listener who tells us how our show has helped get them through a tough time.
9) If you could spend the day with any fictional character, who would you choose and why?
Yoda. Wisdom.
10) What is the best meal you ever ate?
Sharing a nicoise salad with my future wife at the Sailfish Marina on the day we met.
