Lent 2012 ~ The Purpose Driven Life, Day Seven

Day Seven, The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

The Reason for Everything

In Chapter seven, Warren makes it clear that we owe everything to God.  He is the reason that we exist and that the world exists and in the creations of God we see his glory.

God’s glory is the expression of his goodness and all his other intrinsic, eternal qualities.

For us to give glory to God we must SHOW him glory.

In this Chapter, Warren expresses the importance of showing God glory, that this is our primary mission in life, to give glory to the God who created everything.  He also states that we cannot add to God’s glory, but through our actions we can fail to give the glory that our Lord deserves.

We learn that we are commanded to recognize his glory, honor his glory, declare his glory, reflect his glory and live for his glory.  In this chapter we learn that living for God’s glory is the greatest achievement we can accomplish with our lives.

The Purpose Driven Life explores how we can Bring Glory to God…. we learn there are five basic ways to bring that Glory and read that the remainder of this book will explore those ways.

  • We bring God glory by worshiping him
  • We bring God glory by loving other believers
  • We bring God glory by becoming like Christ
  • We bring God glory by serving others with our gifts
  • We bring God glory by telling others about him

My favorite passage of this chapter reads….  Right now, God is inviting you to live for his glory by fulfilling the purposes he made for you.  It’s really the only way to live.  Everything else is just existing.

Day Seven

Thinking About My Purpose

Point to Ponder: It’s all for him.

Verse to Remember:  “For everything come from God alone.  Everything lives by his power, and for everything is for his glory.”  Romans 11:36 (LB)

Question to Consider:  Where in my daily routine can I become more aware of God’s glory?
