Lent 2012 ~ The Purpose Driven Life, Day Two

You are not an accident.

This chapter is one of the most powerful in the entire book for me.  It hits home in ways many of the others don’t.

I remember the first time I was reading the book how important the words of this chapter were…  You are not an accident…. POWERFUL!

The heading of this chapter has an interesting quote from Albert Einstein, ‘God doesn’t play dice.”  If you think about the words it makes sense and fits perfectly, we are all made in the vision that God intended, or as Einstein inferred, God doesn’t leave it up to chance, his greatest creation, he molded and shaped us in the way he intended us to be.

I remember when I was first reading this book I was questioning myself, my life, my being and my make-up in basic to the soul ways.  THis chapter along with a conversation with a Pastor friend was tremendously helpful.  My Pastor friend said it a different way, “God don’t make junk.”

Today’s lesson is important to understand prior to moving on in the book, it is packed filled with great quotes, comments and sayings….

  • You are alive because God wanted to create you.
  • God prescribed every single detail of your body.  He deliberately chose your race, the color of your skin, your hair and every other feature.  He custom-made your body just the way he wanted it.
  • God left no detail to chance.
  • While there are illegitimate parents, there are no illegitimate children.  Many children are unplanned by their parents, but they are not unplanned by God.
  • God never does anything accidentally, and he never makes mistakes.

With this said, it is pretty clear to me we are ALL children of God, made in the image HE created and desired…. God don’t make junk!

Through reading Chapter 2, one section was most profound…..

You were created as a special object of God’s love!  God made you so he could love you.  This is the truth to build your life on.  Pretty awesome huh?!?!

Warren ends the chapter with a beautiful poem by Russell Kelfer:

You are who you are for a reason.

You’re part of an intricate plan.

You’re a precious and perfect unique design,

Called God’s special woman or man.

You look like you look for a reason.

Our God made no mistake.

He knit you together within the womb,

You’re just what he wanted to make.

The parents you had were the ones he chose,

And no matter how you may feel,

They were custom-designed with God’s plan in mind,

And they bear the MAster’s seal.

No, that trauma you faced was not easy.

And God wept that it hurt you so;

But it was allowed to shape your heart

So that into his likeness you’d grow.

You are who you are for a reason,

You’ve been formed by the Master‘s rod.

You are who you are, beloved,

Because there is God!

DAY TWO:  Thinking About My Purpose

Point to Ponder:  I am not an accident.

Verse to Remember:  “I am your Creator.  You were in my care even before you were born.”  Isaiah  44:2 (CEV)

Question to Consider:  I know that God uniquely created me.  What areas of my personality, background, and physical appearance and I struggling to accept?  Sadly, my answers today were the same as they were when I first read the book, I guess I still have a lot of growing to do.

Today is National Banana Bread Day!! WOOHOO

Today is National Banana Bread Day!  WOOHOO!  Who knew that banana bread had its own day?  If today has to be reserved for a bread, I am happy it is banana…. imagine National Crescent Roll Day, Zucchini Bread Day or Rye Day!?!?!?

I love Banana Bread, mama used to make it a lot and sometimes I admit it… I buy bananas just to let them get brown so that I can make a loaf.

One of the easiest to make and tastiest to eat… I love a good old-fashioned banana bread!

There are lots of recipes for banana bread here is a simple one that I found on-line.  I like to add pecans or walnuts to mine.

Happy Banana Bread Day everyone!
